Tuesday 17th January – 11:09am – It’s another slow day at Matareva. It’s raining on/off outside so I am sat in the cabin having a rest…
The last week has flown by, despite the fact we haven’t actually achieved much. Thankfully I’ve gotten into a daily routine which makes the boredom slightly easier, but the monotony of Samoan life is getting tiresome.
We get up around 07:45am, and have breakfast at just after 08:00am. Then Ash and I walk up the beach collecting litter, and tidying the resort. When this chore is finished, we usually open up the bar and get ready for the day. If it is raining however, we sit inside and watch TV in the hope the weather will improve. It’s usually sunny however, so we play with the kids and open the bar, getting ready to sit around all day and wait for customers. At a ‘staggering’ rate of around 10 customers a day, it gets very boring. Then at around 18:00pm, we leave the bar and play touch rugby on the beach which leads to a sunset swim. Its a fun way to end long day.
Our routine has been pretty much this the last week, apart from the introduction of some extra work that we put forward, along with some more organised rugby. On Friday 13th, Fiuaa approached Ash and I and asked if we wanted to suggest some other types of work to do, as she didn’t want us getting bored. We put forward a list of landscaping, tidying and renovating ideas that could be done around the resort. Since then we have cleared the beach of rocks, and tried to push for a few other jobs, however the feel of the resort is that everything moves slowly. Hopefully over the next few weeks we will be given some more freedom to renovate the parts we feel could do with some work.
Last night it was the first training session of the village rugby league team. Tavita has asked me to coach the team with some fitness drills and games, with Ash’s help. My feet are still in pieces from my blisters and cuts, so I coached from the sideline, and officially ran my first rugby training session. It went well and was tough by all accounts – lots of fitness.
This morning we woke up to a storm outside, and have since been inside all morning. After breakfast we chilled with Bill, and are now napping until lunch. Fun Fun…
